I wrote this blog post while interning at World Relief Chicago on the organization’s WordPress site. During my four months with WRC, my role included managing the blog and occasionally writing posts. The Black Panther was just released, and I was so excited to relate the message of the movie to immigration in the United States and World Relief Chicago’s work. I worked with World Relief Chicago as a Marketing Intern from January - May 2018. You can read the blog post here.

While serving as the Marketing Intern at World Relief Chicago, I used Canva to create this refugee arrival graphic. We wanted to educate followers about how many refugees arrived every two weeks and where they came from. Once I updated the numbers, we shared the graphic on the organization’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. The graphic continued to serve the organization after my internship ended and became a vital part of WRC’s social media strategy. I worked with World Relief Chicago as a Marketing Intern from January - May 2018. You can view the graphic *here.*

While interning at World Relief Chicago, we ran multiple informational social media campaigns with the goals of educating our followers about immigrants in the Chicago area and creating support for immigrants. I created this infographic on Canva to use in one of these campaigns with the goal of demonstrating the financial contribution of immigrants. I followed the organization’s branding guidelines regarding colors and fonts, so they continued to edit and adapt the infographic to new campaign needs, even after my internship ended. While completing my MA coursework at the University of Cape Town, I took a Media, Development, and Globalisation course. Our final project involved creating a COVID-19 educational health campaign targeting a vulnerable population group in South Africa. I chose to target students living on-campus at the University of Cape Town since they live in close quarters and can’t properly social distance. I developed a campaign with numerous tactics (photobooth, WhatsApp alerts, masks, and posters) and measures to evaluate the success of the campaign. I presented the campaign to my class, and my professor recommended that I submit the campaign to the university’s marketing department to implement it on-campus once the students returned to school. You can see the campaign proposal presentation here.

While completing my BA at Central College, I took a Communication Research and Writing course to fulfill my degree requirements. Our primary task involved drafting a literature review and creating a research proposal about our chosen topic. I examined race in mass media and recevied a nearly perfect score. Based on my completed project, my professor selected me as the Communication Studies Writing Fellow for underclassmen taking the same course the following year. You can read the full paper here.
